Rammer Jammer, Yellow Hammer, You Got 'Cocked, Alabama: NCAA Week 6 Thoughts

After curling up into an enraged ball after Penn State's catastrophic loss to Illinois (and some injuries which means that we at the VFA are thinking of volunteering to play for Tom Bradley's defense because it's so beaten up at the moment), we'd lost faith in college football. A few hours later, it was apparent that Armageddon—once again—had happened in college football. Especially at Columbia SC, where—as wonderful SEC writer Clay Travis puts it—Stephen Garcia's probably not going to have a problem with the ladies after the Gamecocks beat Alabama today. And you know what?  They didn't just beat Alabama on Saturday afternoon. They put 35 on them and while they NEARLY lost control midway through the game, they made the plays when needed, and now Columbia, South Carolina is the place to go and have a few beers (if you live in the South) tonight. Denard Denied While's he's probably going to win the Heisman trophy, Denard Robinson was served a reminded today that Michigan State were not Indiana, Bowling Green or any other team this season which the Wolverines star quarterback has served up monstrous numbers on. The Spartans brilliantly stopped Robinson's running game (although Robinson did run in a TD in the second half), and then Kerry Cousins and the Spartans offense gave the Big House a big punch in the face, winning out 34-17 in a game that was far more exciting than the one-sided scoreline suggested.  And remember kids: Every Time Michigan loses an angel gets its wings. Arkansassssssoeeeeey! Wasn't lovely, but then again, Ryan Mallett and his Razorbacks offense did the job with some great defense in a 24-17 win at Jerry Jones' Death Star in Dallas over Texas A&M. This is a game we wish could have been in Kyle Field, bearing in mind the atmosphere's better and there are less away fans. They could have given the Aggies the lift their drab offense needed—because it was a practical no-show today (although Mallett wasn't wonderful either). Quack, Quack? While they are still playing at the time of writing, Oregon provided us with a distinctly average performance on the road to Pac-10 bottom-dweller Washington State (they are 29-17 up at the time of writing). Giving up 17 points to Washington State doesn't put you in love with the voters, people. For the second best team in the nation, think Boise, people. We're still stunned about the Alabama result. We'll be providing some deeper reflection after tonight's games.Read more South Carolina Football news on BleacherReport.com

Rumor: Gamecocks To Play Nebraska In 2011?

Rumors are saying that South Carolina and Nebraska are scheduled to debut the 2011 season in Atlanta's Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Game, according to the College Football Times blog.
The Gamecocks 2011 schedule has been finalized but the school could possibly make changes if they are interested in competition against Bo Pelini's Big Red.
Steve Spurrier's squad is slated to a five-game series with East Carolina beginning on the date of September 3rd, 2011 at Charlotte's Bank of America Stadium. Other opponents in 2011 include Navy, The Citadel, and Clemson.
If South Carolina is to play Nebraska, it's best bet would be to drop or reschedule the Citadel or Navy contest and re-schedule the East Carolina game.
A good reason South Carolina would disagree to play Nebraska is that it already plays in the tough SEC, against opponents such as Florida and Alabama.
If the game goes through, it would be a good test for the Cornhuskers, who are moving to the Big Ten Conference in 2011.Read more South Carolina Football news on BleacherReport.com
