South Carolina Recruiting 2012: Gamecocks Nab a Punter
Just when you thought the coaching staff for the South Carolina Gamecocks football team was done recruiting for the Class of 2012, they go out and nab a punter named Worth Gregory as a "preferred walk-on."Fort Mill (S.C.) punter Worth Gregory was on campus this past weekend and decided to join the Gamecocks football team as a preferred walk-on. The 6-foot-4, 200-pounder will report this summer with the rest of the signing class. No scholly but will be given every chance to get one next season.
Given the uncertainty on the depth chart at punter, this may prove to be a smart choice for both him and USC.

Gamecocks Basketball: Video Review of Last 3 Games
The South Carolina men's hoops program is having a very tough year and here is some video highlights of the last three games. We have been out-of-pocket in our coverage of the hoop's squad mainly due to National Signing Day but also it seems that it is the same thing each outing. Hard to write about the losses each time out.Let's hope the recent loss to Kentucky was the bottom of this travel down to the valley after reaching somewhat of the mountain top in winning the SEC East a few years back.South Carolina is now 9-13 overall and 1-7 in SEC play. They’ll take on Tennessee in Knoxville on Wednesday night. Tip off is set for 8 ET.Here are video highlights of the last three losses...

Gamecocks Football: Dalton Wilson Not Returning
The South Carolina Gamecocks will be without junior Dalton Wilson for the 2012 season as he has opted to leave the team after completing his degree.Wilson, a walk-on who started seven games at fullback last season, will not return to the team next year, a school spokesperson said. Wilson, who did not have a carry or a reception in his career, was an academic All-American and finance major who had completed his degree work. Not the biggest of losses and not the biggest of surprises as he indicated around bowl practices that if he did not get a scholarship he would move on to the real world. This departure leaves Matt Coffee as the likely candidate to assume the role of fullback in the Spurrier offense but there has been a little talk of giving Brandon Wilds a shot at that slot also next season given a healthy Marcus Lattimore is ready to resume his Heisman hunt.

Gamecocks Recruiting 2012: Will USC Turn Chris Moody?
The South Carolina Gamecocks are not done recruiting for the Class of 2012 as they are still pushing hard for the services of Chris Moody.Moody (McDonough, Ga./Henry County) is a Vanderbilt commitment but he is not strong with that.USC has been pursuing the 3-star athelete and recently got him to make an official visit to South Carolina this past weekend. Good thing too as the Gamecocks are squarely in the mix to sign him on Wednesday, which is national signing day.By looking at reports surrounding his visit, the 6-foot-1, 190-pounder had a very good one as he met Coach Spurrier, Coach Lorenzo Ward and running back Marcus Lattimore. All three made a impact on him but the thing that was said that could get him to switch is that Coach Spurrier promised him a shot to be under center. It will be in designed plays like the Wildcat but it is exactly what Moody wants in his college destination as he played quarterback, along with defense, in high school. So what does the LOHD crystal ball say...based on his experience on the official visit and the promise to get a shot under center then our outlook is he will sign with the Gamecocks. Don't go bet the house on it but it looks real good that he will be wearing the garnet and black in 2012. If we are wrong blame Moose.

Gamecocks Stock Report: Week of Jan. 29, 2012
In this Gamecocks Stock Report, we give you a quick snapshot concerning the state of the program. One thing about it, it is a great time to be a gamecock. Here goes:RisingGamecocks Football Recruiting - Spurrier and crew are putting the finishing touches on a strong class that will certainly land in the top 15 amongst the major recruiting outlets. Just a few more days until National Signing Day.Baseball - The champs have been ranked near the top in the major outlets. Scrimmages have started. Where is the peanuts?Swimming - I know what...but the Gamecocks can get wet and do well doing so. The South Carolina women finish the year at 7-3 overall and 2-2 in the SEC to give them back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since 1994-95. The Gamecock men are now 5-4 on the season and 0-3 in the conference, giving them back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since 1993-94.FlatliningUSC Men's Hoops - Darrin Horn gave us hope in beating Alabama earlier this week but shortly there after, we had a reality check in losing to Ole Miss. USC is 1-5 in SEC play. Did I mention baseball starts soon?FallingCoaches Moving on From Football Team - I know it is part of the process and the intention is to improve but stop the bleeding. The football team won 11 games. Seems the program is strong and let's not let it dip. From a PR standpoint, it does not help that so many new business cards must be printed. Let's hope this is the last of it and the team can get to thinking about football again.

Gamecocks Football: Thoughts on Losing Jeep Hunter
The South Carolina Gamecocks will be without Jeep Hunter as the safeties coach in 2012. He has been relieved of his duties after just completing his third season with the team. Hunter had been the safeties coach in 2011 and the two years prior to that, he was the tight ends coach as well as an assistant special teams coordinator. This came out of nowhere for us, the fans, and Humer himself as Josh Kendall of The State tweeted that “Hunter was returning from a recruiting trip and in the airport when… Spurrier called to tell him he was fired.”Wow....there has to be more to this story.....

Gamecocks Football Recruiting Video: Christian Hackenberg Offered
The South Carolina Gamecocks have set their sights on Christian Hackenberg. He is the first quarterback offer for the 2013 class by USC.Hackenberg (6-4 215) of Fork Union, VA. has offers from the likes of: Tennessee, Rutgers, Virginia, Alabama, Connecticut and Miami. Hackenberg, labled a 4-star recruit by 247Sports, passed for 2200 yards and 21 touchdowns last season. He is more in the pro-stlye mold but can make plays with his feet. In April 2011 at the National Underclassmen Combine Will Garlick wrote "The quarterbacks had to deal with a strong wind but they may have been the best looking group as a whole. Fork Union's Christian Hackenberg (6-foot-3, 200) looks the part with his size and he has all the fundamentals you want in signal caller. The combine quarterback coach said Hackenberg had great form and he was named the top sophomore quarterback."What could play into the Gamecocks favor in this recruiting battle is the fact that Hackenberg’s father was the backup quarterback at Virginia behind Shawn Moore. But in high school he was recruited by Steve Spurrier while he was at Duke. Hackenberg now has the same opportunity his father had, and that is to play for Spurrier. He has not set any future visits but said he will try to get to USC, Alabama, Tennessee and Virginia. Hackenberg said he has no timeline for a decision but would like to decide sometime this summer.Surely you will hear of other names that USC is going after to be the future quarterback of the Gamecocks but this is the first name on the recruiting board. You can follow him on Twitter - HERE and you can also view his junior highlights below:
